Johann Samuel Arnhold was born at Heinitz, a village near Meissen. The artist was trained at the Art School of the Porcelain factory of Meissen, eventually becoming a professor.
Arnhold made a name for himself in the development of a decorative style, Voller grüner Weingranz (vine leaf decoration), in 1817. This strewn flower motif became well-known in the Biedermeier period at Meissen.
