The Psidium Gujava, also called the common guava, is a small tree native to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Its distribution has been greatly extended through cultivation and it is now widespread throughout the tropics and subtropics. There has been confusion on the origin of this species due to the fact that Linnaeus, in 1753, misdescribed this species based on Old World collections and thought it to be from Asia.
