A self-taught artist, Axel Amuchastegui was born in Cordoba, Argentina, in 1921. His work extracts a lyrical beauty from the natural environment in which he grew up, raised by his grandmother and parents to love all the wild creatures. He illustrated many works, including Birds of the World, Some Birds & Mammals of North America, and Studies of Birds & Mammals of South America.
