A female domestic mallard (or hen) is a large, mottled brown and tan bird, often kept for ornamental purposes or as a backyard pet. Unlike the colorful male, she has muted, camouflaged plumage, a prominent orange bill with black markings, and a blue-purple speculum patch on her wing.
