The following images are from a series of watercolors and drawings that depict the natural history (flora and fauna) of Guiana, dating to the early 19th-century.

The collection appears to pre-date the expeditions of Sir Robert Hermann Schomburgk, a German-born explorer for Great Britain who exec uted geographical, ethnological and botanical studies in various parts of the world in the 1830s and 40s. He traveled to South America, the West Indies, the Dominican Republic and Thailand. Fragments of a manuscript text accompanied these unsigned works of art, suggesting an English author with Guyanese subject matter. Important to note, the colonies of Berbice ana the United Colony of Demerara and Essquibo were ceded to Britain in 1814, and unified as British Guiana in 1831.
