Country of Origin: Only known as a cultivated ornamental. Locally naturalized in
southwest Europe; widespread in southwest and south central Asia. The generic name Tulipa is derived from the Persian plant name toliban. The species of name is dedicated to the great Swiss botanist Konrad Gesner (1516-1565).
