| Vasi was a pupil of Sebastian Conca, who worked for several Italian Kings as a painter, and for the Court of Naples as an engraver. Vasi's great work, Delle Magnificenze di Roma Antica e Moderna, is regarded by many authorities as the most accurate depiction of ancient and Baroque Rome. The 216 engraved views were supplemented by a scholarly text written by Guiseppe Bianchini and Vasi himself, with much valuable information on architectural monuments in the city as well as many in the surrounding hills. In the early plates, Vasi is thought to have been assisted by his pupil, Giovanni Battista Piranesi. | |||
