Eugene Duflot de Mofras — Vue De La Mission De Saint Louis.

Vue De La Mission De Saint Louis. Vue De La Mission De Saint Louis.

Published:  Paris  1844
Medium:  Lithograph
Dimensions:  12 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches

This is the finest depiction of this important mission to be published during the Mexican period. A town that was given the name Las Flores was founded near this mission in the 1830's, but proved short-lived. Duflot de Mofras' interest in this mission, as opposed to the others in California, was undoubtedly due to its association with the King of France. Wagner calls Duflot de Mofras' work: "One of the twenty rarest and most important...dealing with the history of California".
