Original 1905 Drawing for New York as I Saw It. 1905 Medium: Drawing Dimensions: 7 1/4 x 5 1/2" image size “Vaudeville and the "palaces of varieties" present very comic shows with buffoons and seem almost like circuses. The only real comical thing would be the eccentric outfits of the bums, the language of the tramps, and the fact that they are hitting each other, jumping out of windows, and shooting each other with guns. Often Black men will accompany themselves with guitars and banjos and sing sentimental songs in pretty voices. These are called coon songs and they are very successful.” - Huard, New York Comme Je l'ai Vu |
